come and play....

Sunday at Scrapsupply is our big anniversary party. We have bingo with our guest designer this month, none other than Ali E, and tons of great challenges and prizes. You can read more here in our newsletter, which, as usual, is so full of cool stuff. I know that I'm partial, but every month I'm more amazed at how great it is.

My contribution was another gauntlet challenge. I really have so much fun doing these. You can get all of the specifics in the challenge section on Scrapsupply, but here is the album that I came up with using the list of gauntlet requirements.

Ever since I read this book from Simple, I've wanted to do something with the He said/ She said quiz. I adapted it a little bit, and wrote the questions on the back of the journaling cards and then gave them to Matt to answer. I answered on my cards at the same time. The photos are from the little Mac camera in my new laptop, so they are kind of wacky and grainy, which was totally what I was going for anyway.

Questions about the album or anything, please ask....and don't forget to come and say hi at the party tomorrow!

typical

Today was the preschool Pirate party, which included a trip to the harbor to look for "treasure". It was all well and good.

As we walked down the dock we happened upon this character....

Seal1
Now I won't get into my immediate reaction to seeing these guys. Lets just say that as a family of commercial fishermen, the feeling isn't "awww, isn't he so cute!" but that is neither here nor there. The kids all thought it was cool...and Leland, the tour guide took care of him by spraying him with a hose...and life went on.

The kids went on to tour Leland's sail boat and I snapped photos  and chit chatted with other moms about  how much fun it was to stand on a dock in the rain on a cold May morning  while our little pirates  had their adventure.  Once they were done and lining up to head back up the dock to hunt for treasure, one of the kids started yelling that the sea lion was back.

Now I should point out that all of the kids were hanging on to parents hands, except of course for my kid, who even though both Matt and I were there, offering not 2 but 4 hands to hold, was all about squeezing his way to the front of every line. He has big dock experience you know? Just ask him.

One of the moms turned to me as he bounded out of reach and said "wow, Todd is just so fearless, it is amazing". Right about then I looked up and saw this....

I wish I would have been positioned where I had a better view, but I had no idea that my 5 year old was going to take control of the hose and tell Leland that he could take care of it this time.

He was quite pleased with himself and all of his little friends were duly impressed...

He got back to the girls and said "well, I don't think we'll be seeing him again!"

Dude, I don't know whether to be proud or terrified. This kid of mine is just too much!

progress....

so the great organizational odyssey has begun...unfortunately, it has not ended. We had pretty high hopes for getting more done today than we did, but that is pretty much the story of my life. That is the bad news. The good news is that our pantry is beautifully organized...the after makes me so happy that I'm willing to share the embarrassing "before" photo...

The kitchen drawers are also beautifully lined and re-organized, except for the dreaded "junk" drawer...that is on tomorrow's list. Also on tomorrow's list a Pre-school pirate party...and some work so that we can finish the organizational odyssey by Monday!!

guess what we are going to do tomorrow?

Organize

Oh yeah baby, organized kitchen drawers and cabinets here we come!!

The original chickens...

I promised another chicken story... although I think these are technically roosters.

My new birthday chickens do make me very happy. But these are the chickens that make me the happiest. These chickens hung in my Mom's kitchen for many years, of course they were a lovely shade of burnt orange I wonder if she remembers where she got them originally? Mom?

They show up in many childhood photos...but this photo is my favorite. I love this photo for so many reasons...I love my Papa's big hands holding me, and my tiny hand on his face...and the looks on our faces....and I love that those chickens are in the background.

Here they are yesterday (38 ish years later) in their new spot in the kitchen.

pure happy.

May 26, 2008

today as we got ready to put our flag outside...

That is right Mommy, we can't forget to hang up our flag today

Right

because today is Memorial Day and we need to remember all of the soldiers that died...

...especially Teet.

Honey, Teet wasn't a soldier.

but we loved her

Yes, we loved her, but today is a holiday to remember the soldiers

Because Soldiers are heroes Mommy.

exactly

How many soldiers died Mommy?

Too many baby, too many.

Oh...then we should say at least two hundred and seventy thousand prayers.

yes baby, at least.

found them...

my images that is. I'm starting to figure it out. I didn't have much time to work on it today, but I was able to find the photos I took yesterday. I was even able to resize them for the web. GO ME!!

So these are just a couple of shots of my new goodies around the house. First of all, remember these?  It took a while, but I finally got them hung up. They still make me ridiculously happy, even though my husband is still shaking his head.

Then while I was shopping with my mom the other day, I picked up a couple of goodies. Now that I am cooking so much more I find myself needing a few things in the kitchen. My utensils were hopelessly jumbled before, and I had a hand held can opener that didn't work. Look at me now...all grown up!!

Utensils

Then, Mom and I were in Pier 1...and I was looking at these cute little lanterns for my kitchen window sill. Totally unnecessary, but oh so cute.

Then, as I looked back to check out the lamps my Mom was talking about, I gasped out loud when I saw these chickens in the window. Somehow, chickens have become a motif in my kitchen. I'm pretty particular about my chickens...but these were just too cute. I have more chicken stories to share, but I'll save those for another day because it requires scanning in a photo, and Lord knows that may take me a year. (Everything I'm doing right now takes a year.)

So anyway, back to the new chickens. I couldn't decide between the big one and the little one so my Mom spoiled me and got me both for a last minute birthday treat. I need to take a better photo of them, but this will do for now. The little guy sitting on the end was a gift from my Mom a few years ago. I love him to pieces too.

Chickens

Tomorrow we hang out, and best of all, Moriah comes home.

May 24, 2008

so this wasn't the photo I was planning to post...

Well that isn't entirely true. I did want to post this photo. Todd needs a haircut and in an effort to make it a little less ragamuffin and a little more cool dude we broke out a little gel the other night. Now he keeps asking me to make him a new "mohawk".

Toddhairweb

But I also took some photos of a few little house things today, and I wanted to post them. However, after a few hours of trying to figure out Mac, Aperture and full Photoshop, my brain is fried. I actually thought I was getting it. I'm loving the way Aperture organizes, and even though Photoshop is way over my head, I am figuring out how to do the basics I was already doing in PSE. That was the good news...the bad news is I couldn't find my images when I was done fooling around with them. Clearly, I have a bit more work to do to assimilate into this Mac world.

I'll get it...but for now, you are stuck with just one photo of a mohawk!

May 23, 2008

so I have big plans...

I wish I would have taken a photo of my kitchen table while it was still daylight. At the moment it is covered with the bags from my shopping excursion today.

After my mom and Moriah have been through this whole remodeling thing and have had the opportunity to organize all of the stuff in their homes, I'm feeling a little jealous. So I have a plan.

I think I can still call it Spring cleaning. Summer is not until June 20 right? The plan is for every drawer and closet in this place to get a once over next week. It is time to purge and re-organize, and I can't wait.

Most of the items in my bags are cleaning supplies...and some new shelf paper.

We also made a little pit stop into Pier One today. My mom got me a couple of fun things to freshen up the decor around here when I'm done. I also got some pretty major inspiration for a project I'm hoping to tackle in the next few weeks.

In the morning, I'll definitely take some photos....and then I'm going to get started.

May 22, 2008

late night...

sigh. I'm sorry dear blog readers, but I chose the Grey's finale over blogging tonight, and while I am truly enjoying this blogging every day thing, Grey's was oh so satisfying. I'll be back tomorrow.
