oopsie....

So I've mentioned that we've been painting. We got Todd's room put back together today and I just LOVE it. The orange is really bright, but with 2 walls orange and 2 walls silver/grey it totally works. I can't get over how much bigger the room looks. We added a giant piece of furniture and somehow it looks like there is more floor space.

I only had a minute to grab a photo before we ran out to get new blinds etc. and I had my 50mm on the camera so I only have a quick shot from the doorway. Tomorrow I'll take proper "after shots.

First here is a before of the color the room was. I thought this was an appropriate piece of the zip-a-de-d-dah song that was on the walls before (especially appropriate when you read the rest of the story)

There was a chair rail molding below the words and above the stripes. The after sneak looks like this...

Jan3-2 Now for the "oops" part. Somewhere along the line of this re-do Todd's room plan I came up with a plan for less white walls in the living room. Matt was on board so I was excited.

I LOVE color. I grew up in a house with all white walls (love you Mom) and it has taken years to get my mom to realize that shades of white are not colors! LOL. So over the last few years we've added some brown walls in our living room and a beautiful blue/teal in our dining room and kitchen. We also have a super cute yellow wall in our hall. It is important to note that our house is not that big and is kind of an open floor plan, as in you can see a lot of rooms at once from several areas in the house.

So throughout the house there are touches of red, green, blue, yellow and orange....and I love them all. I want our house to be colorful and bright and fun, so that is all good.

Anyway....I bought an awesome art canvas at Ikea the other day and it has TONS of colors (all of the ones already in the house etc) so we thought it would be a good idea to add a green wall to the living room and hang the art piece on it. We had a dilema though, this color would border brown on one side, yellow on the other and frame the doorway into Todd's now very orange room, so it had to look good with all of those colors. sigh.

We thought that this kind of citrusy "grape green" would look good....and kind of does look good with all of the colors, that would be the good news. The bad news is that now that it is on the wall it is neon. I love bright, but this is a bit too bright for a whole big wall.

Both Matt and I tried to make peace with it (and when the lights are dim it aint half bad LOL) . We tried to convince ourselves we were bold, but when I look at it next to the yellow and orange I am transported to a Tijuana fruit stand...and not in a good way. My poor husband that painted the whole thing beautifully will be painting again tomorrow....after I'm at the hardware store the minute they open to borrow those big fan decks again!

I don't think this photo really does it justice (especially the yellow, it is way brighter than this)...but here you go...bienvenidos!

"If you like Pina Coladas & getting caught in the rain" LOL I cannot get that song out of my head now!

WOW! Todd's room is seriously awesome! I recently painted my dining room yellow and it's way to yellow and bright, but no one will let me paint it again and now it's starting to grow on me!

I love the orange!!! It is such a happy color!!
