What I'm dealing with...

My office is divine...my husband rocks. Seriously I can't believe how fast he put everything together and what an amazing job he did. He is the best...and I don't have to say that this time, because he's already done!! I think it is going to be all that I've been dreaming it to be. I just want to be in there all day...unfortunately it doesn't have any of my stuff in it yet, because it is all in my dining room.

Good Gravy I don't know how that all fit in one room. I can promise you that it isn't all going to make its way back into my lovely space...I'm definitely going to be doing some purging ! Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have it all done and ready to roll...and I'll share before and after pics.

Tomorrow night I won't be working on my space though, because we'll be here cheering on Raul.
Who would have thought that Matt and I would be going on a date to a cage fight? Not something I thought would be a part of my world...but it is, because Raul is. He is a big part of my "year of me" and Todd's teacher and Matt and I are excited to get out, and excited for Raul. If you are at all into this sort of thing, you should check him out on Showtime, it is his first televised fight and a pretty big deal.

Speaking of big deals...the other big deal we are dealing with is the kid that landed in the principals office, with the principal calling me to come get him early from school yesterday because of this...

It is a rather long story but suffice it to say that it was ringing, and Todd was in trouble. You can figure out the rest. If anyone has any genius punishments for 7 year olds (short of throwing him in the cage with Raul, or making him alphabetize the contents of the dining room) I'd love to hear them.

So there you have it... the top three things I'm dealing with today!

A week about me in the year of me...

So this is the week I've been waiting for. My darling, amazing and wonderful husband (did I mention wonderful?) is off of work this week...and he is helping me re-do my office. You should realize that this project is just getting started and he has a lot of work still ahead of him, so I will probably call him adorable and wonderful a few more times.

I should also mention that right now the equivalent of "helping me" means he is painting, building shelves, cutting down tables etc..and I'm not doing a whole heck of a lot.

Well I did pack up and we  unloaded the entire room, closet and all, and let me tell you, it is frightening how much stuff I had in that room. It didn't seem like much until it became stacked all over my dining room, now it is a bit overwhelming.

I've been taking photos, and I'll share more details of the plan etc. tomorrow after my darling, amazing, wonderful husband gets the painting done.

creative...

not me...my boy.

Lately he has been really being creative...probably because the TV has been severely limited, and he's bored out of his skull after being sick and off of school all week...but whatever the reason, I'm loving it.

This evening it was dixie cups (lots of dixie cups)...and lego guys.
We love lego guys around here.

The best part was that first he wanted me to "take a picture and post it on my blog"...but then he decided that he wanted to take some photos himself. I heard him asking Matt if he could use his little point and shoot "because Mom's camera is heavy and if I drop it her head will explode!" (so glad he gets it).

I wonder if he gets that tongue out thing from me?

He took some pretty great shots of his castle though...I love that astro boy is protecting it from the giant wooden crab...

 

And that there are lego guys around the whole perimeter.


Speaking of creative...last night he decided to hold a "press conference"...hmmm...I wonder if that is because he happened to watch a certain someone give a big apology yesterday morning? I have nothing to say about that someone in particular...but believe me, I did hold him up as a big example for my beautiful boy that doesn't always follow the rules.

Anyway...later last night Todd started moving around furniture so that he could read us a story that he wrote. I'll have to share the story itself tomorrow, it is pretty cool...but nothing is as cool as his step for behind his podium.

My kid is beside himself...

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid His very first movie of a book he has read...and it is of the very first "whole, real book" that he has read. I can't believe how excited he is about reading since Noni got him this book for Christmas. He is working on a couple of more in the series simultaneously at the moment. I love seeing him enjoying curling up and reading....even if it isn't war and peace, and if it includes middle school-ish humor and stick figures, he is reading...and loving it, so I'll take it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Reporting on the weekend...the bad news is that Todd is under the weather...again or maybe it is still. Lots of coughing...some here and there fever, which seemed to be down today so I'm hoping that we are on our way. The good news is we had a nice quiet weekend at home, watching the Olympics and drinking coffee with hearts on the cup.

We had our Valentine's dinner last night, which was special because it was on "real" plates and served with candle light.

It is so funny because in an old life I had so many candles and candle holders it was ridiculous...now, not so much. But our plate full of votives turned out to be quite lovely and festive.

Today I got back to training and was shocked to learn just how much harder it was after 4 days off with the bum foot. It made me extra proud of myself for starting in the first place. I learned more new things today, tried more things I never thought I'd do and just reaffirmed that this is the right path for me. I'll be sure to remind myself of that tomorrow when my sore muscles have sore muscles.

So that is the weekend report...no school this week, so it should be interesting!

My funny valentine....

the day that didn't go as planned....

Not that I don't have plenty of days that don't go as planned...but today was a real winner.

It started out pretty good. Todd went to school and I went for my workout. It was a doozie. Everything felt difficult...I was told that was because the workouts are getting more difficult. That made me feel better, because let me tell you...it was hard. I had sweat in my eyes...my eyes. Hello? I said I was going to write it down, because for some reason, I felt like sweat dripping in my eyes was kind of a milestone.

After that I got home and was just about to get into the shower when Todd called for me to come get him at school. He's had a bit of a cough over the weekend, and I kept him home yesterday. He was fine, and went to school, but apparently not fine enough to play a "wild game of kickback" at recess and still get back into class without going into a major coughing jag. 

So after he got back home and I could see just how fine he was, and after I showered to rectify the sweat in my eyes, we decided to go to Target for some valentine provisions. On the way into the store, I stepped on a rock, or something and twisted my foot right over...and then I started to feel myself fall.  So like I was in slow motion that took forever I tried to get my feet back underneath me, which apparently from where my mother was walking behind me, looked like some sort of a running game. She thought this, because apparently I was pulling along Todd who had been holding my hand. She stopped thinking it was a game at the point when she saw us both on the pavement. Thankfully Todd was fine, and somehow I managed a bit of a roll (must be my newly discovered athleticism! LOL) Unfortunately, the original foot thing was the most painful part.

I still thought it was fine until after I was home for a while and it was hurting so badly that I couldn't put any weight on it at all. So it was off to the ER and after 4 hours of holding my breath, 3 ambulance arrivals that made me glad to be low priority, 1 x-ray and 80 applications of anti-bacterial lotion later,  it is just a bad sprain. The good news is that I can still train as long as I can tolerate the pain. How crazy is it that not being able to exercise was my biggest fear? In the old days I would be happy to have the excuse. The bad news is that so far the pain is such at the moment that I can barely get myself to the bathroom...it doesn't help that my "good leg" is so sore it isn't doing a very good job of compensating.

Oh well. 

I'm deciding to go to bed without really confirming tomorrow's plans...maybe if I wing it, it will be a better day?

So today Todd and I played a little hookie. He has had a little coughy cold, and while he could have gone to school, it seemed like a good idea to keep him home. Besides, I was not too unhappy to skip a work in an office day to hang out with him. We cleaned up the house, played a little wii and had an overall great day. Because he was home this morning I didn't walk. So when Matt got home, I loaded up the stuff I had for errands to run, leashed up the girl and headed out. I kid you not, the minute I walked out the door, it started to rain. I came back in, thinking maybe I'd try the treadmill. I was already less than enthusiastic on my way out. However, my husband, child and dog were all pretty clear that I should go anyway. Matt said "it is just sprinkling", Todd said "Mom, you can't play hookie on your walk!" and Pearl just whined and whimpered and walked in circles. So off I went...and I had to do a little iphone documentation of the fashion statement that was the poncho I found under the seat of my car. But I did it...I still walked.  Little victories.

bad blogging the last few days...and not so great blogging tonight because I don't have some of the photos I've been thinking of taking but haven't. I was going to take a photo of the discipline chart that Todd has made (and I will) it is a reproduction of the one he has in his classroom---the one that he has had a really hard time staying on the right part of lately.

I was also going to take a photo of the book he finished reading tonight. He has had quite a bit of time to read since he has been grounded since Tuesday from any and all things with a screen. He was so excited when he finished. It is his first "real " book and after all, "it has 217 pages".

I know that there were at least a few other photos I thought of taking, and a few other stories I thought of telling these past few days, but I can't quite remember what they were at the moment.

February...

I can't believe it is February already...and I can't believe it has been a year since all of these photos were taken. I didn't take enough photos last Feb...a couple of photo shoots of Todd, which has me inspired to do more with Valentine's Day coming.

Nonetheless, I'm really enjoying culling through all of the photos from last year and breaking it down into manageable highlighty chunks.
